Paris,
France & Oslo, Norway, 23rd February, 2004
- Beep Science, the Mobile DRM experts and PacketVideo Network Solutions, Inc. Inc., a world leader in mobile video
and audio delivery and a wholly owned subsidiary of
Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE:ALA), today announce
that they have integrated a solution providing mobile
carriers and content distributors with a combined
Digital Rights Management (DRM) and mobile media distribution
system ready for commercial roll-out.
Beep Science and PacketVideo Network Solutions, Inc., have successfully tested interoperability
of Beep Science's Rich Media DRM solution which is
based on the upcoming version 2 of the OMA DRM standard
with the PacketVideo Network Services pvServerTM.
The integrated Beep Science and PacketVideo Network
Solution will be demonstrated live on stand L22 Hall
4 at 3GSM.
"PacketVideo Network Solutions, Inc. and Beep Science are natural partners,"
says Anthony Sheehan, Director Applications and Content
of PacketVideo Network Solutions, Inc.Patrick Parodi, General
Manager Europe and Latin America of PacketVideo Network Solutions, Inc. "Both companies support open standards;
3GPP / MPEG-4 in pvNS's case, with Beep Science supporting
the OMA DRM standard, and both companies strive to
continue to be the best at providing critical technology
links for the mobile content delivery chain. Thanks
to this collaboration, media companies can now generate
revenue from the distribution of high-quality audio
and video over mobile networks, confident that robust
data rights management tools exist that can secure
their content."
The integration of the Beep
Science Rich Media DRM Solution with the PacketVideo Network Solutions, Inc.' pvServerTM enables distributors
to provide mobile content services with "state
of the art" security for protection of their
high quality content as well as enable the content
owner to specify how the user can distribute, play
and interact with the content.
The Rich Media DRM solution
from Beep Science provides more extensive security
than OMA DRM Version 1, which initially is targeting
low value content, as well as proposing a clear roadmap
towards full OMA DRM version 2 compliance. The solution
is made for Symbian-enabled handsets in the first
phase and comprises a downloadable client component
and a server component.
"I know that the relationship
between PacketVideo Network Services and Beep Science
can be beneficial for both companies," says Jan
Rune Hetle, CEO of Beep Science. "We are already
working together on a joint customer that should launch
a commercial service in the next few months. I believe
that our specialization and reliance upon open standards
makes our joint solution the best in the mobile market
place."
